End of 2012 Photos: Seattle

Seattle

I am taking these last few, precious days of 2012 to post things that I should have posted much, much earlier. This trip to Seattle for instance, happened way back in September but unfortunately, time got away from me. Hopefully, I can do a much better job in 2013. That’s the goal anyway.

But back to September — we headed up to Seattle to see the King Tut exhibit at the Pacific Science Center (hey! the exhibit is there until 1/6/13! But you can no longer take photos), we ate a lovely dinner at Lecosho and we stayed at Hotel Andra. It was just a quick overnight trip but it was a lot of fun. Here are the pictures.

I wish I remembered to take photos of all the informational notes for each item. Fail.

Seattle King Tut Exhibit Akhenaten
This however, I know is Akhenaten. While in college, I took a whole class on his reign. Monotheism!

Travels and Photos on the Olympic Peninsula

Port Townsend, WA

Over Labor Day weekend jwa and I traveled to Port Townsend, WA for a long weekend. We’ve been going there every so often since we first moved to Portland, way, way back in 2000. The first time we visited, it was for a friend’s wedding (she’s from Port Townsend) and we both just really fell in love with the town. It’s full of crumbly bricks, water views, Victorian Era what-nots and it’s just a very unique place to visit. It’s one of our favorite Pacific Northwest locales.

A few trips ago, we first went to a restaurant called The Fountain Cafe and we finally made a return visit this year. I’m really glad we did — it was the best meal of the trip. If you are ever in that neck of the woods, you should definitely check it out.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they have a website, so no link. It’s a small restaurant, so if you go, try to get there early. And here are some pictures from our trip.

Staying and Eating in Santa Fe, New Mexico: Casita Madera and Restaurant Martin

Restaurant Martin

I have been meaning to do a post or two (or five) about our roadtrip in May to the Southwest but I keep being lazy about it. Well. No more. Here is at least one post about it. Santa Fe, in particular and our dinner at Restaurant Martin, which was one of (if not THE) best meal of the trip.

Santa Fe, NM 87501

I spent a lot of time looking into Santa Fe restaurants before we left, as I figured one of our meals there would be the big splurge of the trip. After much deliberation, I settled on Restaurant Martin and we were not disappointed at all.

But first, a few general Santa Fe observations and pictures.

After much research (there was a spreadsheet involved) we decided on staying at the Casita Madera and it was both mine and jwa’s favorite place of the whole trip. It was a little rental cottage, a few blocks from the plaza and it was so nice. With it’s reclaimed wood beams, granite counter tops and fluffy, cloud-like bed, it was the perfect home base in Santa Fe.

The Great Southwest Roadtrip of 2011

SW2011

As I’m starting to plan another epic Southwest road trip for next Spring, I thought I’d take the time to do a post and an overview of last Spring’s trip. I can’t believe I never did a recap, but then a lot of bad crap happened after we got back and I think I just sort of lost track of many things that I meant to do. Summer 2011 – The Summer Where a lot of Stuff Really Sucked…*

Anyway, we had a super, wonderful time on our journey and here’s where we stayed, what we did and what we ate. I’m kind of surprised I didn’t take more pictures of food.

This HUGE post took more than a week to put together, so I hope you all enjoy it! ;-)

Stop #1: Pendleton, OR
We stayed at the Oxford Suites (the only “chain hotel” we stayed in the whole trip). We’d stayed at one in Spokane, WA a couple of years ago that was nice, so I was expecting that here. Um, not really. It was okay. The hot breakfast bar in the AM was kind of sad. The Spokane one was much . . . → Read More: The Great Southwest Roadtrip of 2011
