Sarah: Thanks! I love getting that soup (besides the fact that it's awesome) because I know I'll have leftover chili paste I can put in stuff! :)

And the only reason I make a big deal out of the non-authentic thing is because 1. it's really not (with the tomatoes and all) and 2. I once posted about a pomegrante/chicken recipe by Sara Moulton that she had based on a Persian dish and holy crap -- the amount of attitude-filled, condescending and just plain rude comments I got was insane.

I finally just removed the post because I got really sick of these, "how dare you insult my culture" comments. Which, okay, on the one hand I can kind of see it but on the other hand, dude, I was just trying to use up a pomegranate! Chill out.

Anyways, so now, whenever I make more culturally-based dishes, I always preface it with a "this is not authentic and I know it" disclaimer to avoid any kind of "you are an idiot if you think that's how real ::insert name of dish here:: is made" issues.

Wow, that was a long reply ;-)

Cheers to you for actually using that little container of spice paste! I usually stir it into the soup, but sometimes it knocks around in the fridge a while before I toss it. Looks great to me, authentic Thai or no.
