Easter Brunch on the Central Oregon Coast

title

For Easter this year, instead of making a brunch at home, jwa and I headed off to Heceta Head Lighthouse, on the coast between Yachats and Florence. Okay, we actually headed there Saturday as it’s a 3+ hour drive and that’s pretty far to drive all in one day — even for a seven-course brunch.

I’m not saying we wouldn’t do that, just that it would be far.

We stayed at the Ocean Cove Inn in Yachats that first night (Perpetua Room, no two night minimum, good price and it was sufficiently cute) and went to the Drift Inn for a huuuuge dinner of nachos, fish, key lime pie and beer. The nachos, beer and key lime pie were all awesome, the fish, sadly, was not. *sigh* Lying people on tripadvisor.com! You bastards! It did, however, remind both jwa and I of Flagstaff. Tasty, Lemony Marinated Mushrooms

So, starting back slowly, I am. This is a salad / side type item we had last week when it was fairly warm out. Not any longer. Rainy and cold now. Anyway, the recipe is originally from Tyler Florence and I really loved the lemony-garlicky flavor. Make some for yourself and see. Oh! I was just thinking, some crumbled feta on this right before serving would probably be amazing.

Very easy and tastes great. I’m sure we’ll have this many more times this Spring and Summer. Oh, I used button mushrooms but I bet this would be awesome with cremini. I also liked the fact that the mushrooms were cooked a bit before marinating them.

Marinated Mushrooms
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil (divided)
1 pound cremini or button mushrooms, cleaned and quartered
1 lemon, zested and juiced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 small bunch fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

A Longer Spring Break

Reasons why I haven’t posted yet this week:

1. jwa gave me an evil cold with a stuffy/runny nose that started last weekend
2. I haven’t cooked much this week because I can’t taste anything (see #1)

I am, however, on the road to recovery and should be posting regularly again next week. In addition, jwa and I are officially engaged. Hooray!

We are starting to look at locations (coast, wine country, ?)/caterers/etc…) but I will try to limit my wedding planning posts to a minimum and keep Je Mange la Ville about recipes/food as much as humanly possible. I am a girl, though, so just deal with the occasional squee!!! about flowers and invitation . . . → Read More: A Longer Spring Break
