Green Tea Fruit Smoothie

Green Tea Fruit Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 cup of vanilla soy milk
2 green tea bags (regular green tea or fruit green tea — I used grapefruit green tea from Republic of Tea)
1 banana cut into a few pieces — toss in a baggie and drop off in the freezer for a half an hour or so (or up to a day ahead of time), so that the banana pieces are somewhere between nice and cold to actually frozen
1 cup frozen mango chunks
juice of one orange
honey

***

Simmer the soy milk, just when it starts to boil, turn off the heat and steep the tea bags for 5 minutes. This can be done ahead of time and placed in the fridge for later in the day, so it’s already chilled when you want to make a smoothie. Or, you can throw it in the freezer for a few minutes after steeping. Or have a not super cold smoothie — it all works. When I haven’t planned ahead of time, I just use the hot green tea soy milk and add a handful of ice cubes to the blender along with everything else.

Take the frozen mango chunks, orange juice, semi-frozen banana chunks, and green tea soy mixture and put in a blender. Add a bit of honey. I usually squeeze and count 1001, 1002. Blend. Pour. Taste. Add more honey if desired.

This can also be made with kiwi instead of the mango /orange juice combination. The Safeway by work just didn’t have any kiwi today. The bastards. Anyway, do everything the same, except omit the mango/orange juice and instead, peel and cut up three kiwis. Add to the bag w/ the bananas and stick in the freezer. Yum… and the kiwi version is a delightful green color too!

  1. David has been getting the Green Tea Frappacino’s at Starbucks, hmmm. I just told him about your recipe and he can’t wait to try it. He’s going to put your link on his blog too!

  2. Starbucks, eat your heart out! I cannot wait to try this? Do you have downloadable recipes? That would be cool. I am printing this out and making it tonight! You have a unique writing style that inspires and makes me laugh. Christy is the cook of the house, but I can hold my own with smoothies and little tidbits of knoshing potential. Looking forward to reading your site daily.

  3. Yum! We made these tonight for our late night sweet attack. Very good. I added a scoop of protein powder to make it more BFL (body for life) but it was great. Thanks.
